I am an ‘Orcadian’, that is to say I was born and bred in Orkney, where my family have farmed for many generations. My wife Jane and I have a small farm, just outside Kirkwall overlooking Scapa Flow. I am passionate about the history and culture of Orkney and I do not consider it a chore to supplement my farming income by showing visitors around Orkney in general and Kirkwall in particular. I played the Kirkwall Ba Game for over thirty years so in addition to a standard Kirkwall Walking Tour I offer a unique walking tour following the Ba’s route and explaining the finer points of the game.

I am a member of the Orkney Tourist Guides Association (OTGA). In 2015 I successfully completed the Orkney Regional Affiliate training course of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association. I passed a series of written and practical examinations, and was awarded the coveted Green Badge and am therefore fully qualified to guide groups throughout Orkney.
